F.A.O. Schwarz (website, like the company, being restructured) is a children’s toy retailer. Perhaps you have heard about their bankrupcy. The company’s new strategy is to market toys to the children of the superrich.
This item on the right is a toy Mercedes, with the price tag of $15,000. My Honda Civic didn’t cost much more than that brand new.
Why would a parent spend that much money on a toy? That money could go to fourth grade private school tuition. It could go to a worthy charity. The kid would probably be just as happy with a Hot Wheels.
CNN/Money posted a feature last November that listed some more of the priciest toys for tots. The flying saucer does sound kind of cool, I have to admit.

Wow. If you have so much money that you don’t know what else to buy for your kids except for a $30,000 off-road vehicle with a $20,000 camper attachment, then you should be shot. If you could, in good conscience, spend your money on that and not, say, give a few bucks to charity, then there is something very wrong with you. I mean, that’s just utterly ridiculous. $30,000 for a NOT REAL CAR???? I want to meet someone who buys that for their kid so that I can punch them in the stomach.
