This Month’s Bottom Line

Here are some of the things affecting my personal bottom line this month:

* Income: I worked a smaller-than-average amount of overtime this month, so there won’t be much to talk about. The equivalent of my overtime pay before taxes is transferred to my Emigrant Direct savings account.

* More income: I did some freelance work for Reid Sound which will account for an extra $500. My total for the year is $600, which means I will have to include this work when considering my income tax.

* Advertising income: My April Google Adsense check should arrive before the end of the month, and if I get a chance to deposit it, that will be more than $200 added to my Web Income account. The income itself was already accounted for in April, though. I’ve been accruing my advertising income throughout this month as well, and it seems less likely that I’ll hit $200 this month. Anything I receive I look at as a bonus.

* Major purchase: I’ve been meaning to get a new camcorder for about ten years. I enjoy making making films and I’ll probably use it for video blogging (“vlogging”) at some point. The Panasonic PV-GS19 set me back about $400 including several accessories, such as a carrying case, tripod and FireWire cable. My only complaint with the camcorder is the lack of an external microphone input, but there are ways to get around that if necessary.

* Reimbursement: I’m expecting a tuition reimbursement check from my employer. It should arrive before the end of the month, and once I deposit it, I can account for a transfer between my reimbursable expenses and my student loan account.

I’m s-l-o-w-l-y inching towards my first google adsense check. That income should grow as my blog continues to gain traffic.
We’ll see.

Traffic really is the key. I added Google Adsense to the site last October or November, and March was the first month that put me over the minimum to receive a check.
