When we talk about gas caps, we are usually referring to the round knob that you remove when you stop to fill up your tank and sometimes forget to replace before driving away. But there’s a new kind of gas cap in the Aloha State.
Hawaiians have now been assured by law that they will not have to pay more than $2.1578 (before tax, wholesale) beginning September 2, thus enacting a gas price cap. The customer will still pay more than this, however, and the law may be ineffective for helping consumers. Some believe gas providers may leave the island-state entirely if profits cannot be made in Hawaii.
