The founder of PeopleSoft is looking to build a three story, 72,000 square foot mansion in California. That’s about the size of Bill Gates’ and Michael Dell’s homes combined. It’s also bigger than the Notre Dame Cathedral, the Hearst Castle, and the White House.
What do millionaires do with all that space? That’s a good question to ask some of the others on the following list.
| Software/Hardware Millionaire | House Size |
| David Duffield, PeopleSoft | 72,000 sq.ft. |
| Bill Gates, Microsoft | 40,000 sq.ft. |
| Michael Dell, Dell | 33,000 sq.ft. |
| Steve Jobs, Apple | 17,000 sq.ft. |
| Larry Ellison, Oracle | 8,000 sq.ft. |
| Flexo* | 675 sq.ft. |
* Flexo is not really a software or hardware millionaire.

Vernon Hill, founder, chairman and CEO of Commerce Bancorp (a.k.a. Commerce Bank, based in Cherry Hill, NJ), owns the largest house in NJ located in Moorestown (not Morristown). It measures up at 43K+ sq. ft. if I recall correctly. This may have influenced the fact that Moorestown was recently cited as the best place to live in the USA by Businessweek? Magazine (or some other nationally circulated business magazine).
