To celebrate National Tax Advice Day (which I predict will soon become a major holiday which we’ll celebrate with staplers and shredders instead of tinsel and mistletoe) on Thursday, H&R Block has set up what appears to be a somewhat complete resource on calculating and filing your taxes.
Sure, there are some light topics like deductions you probably won’t get away with, but the site also contains detailed information for new parents and homeowners. Their website also offers several calculators and estimators to help you on the way to filing.
H&R Block is pushing National Tax Advice Day to sell their tax software, Tax Cut and Tax Cut Online. I have had no experience with this software. In the past I’ve used TurboTax Online and I have not yet seen a reason to switch, although the National Tax Advice Day website will come in handy no matter what software — if any — one uses for filing taxes.
The site isn’t complete and won’t answer situational questions for everyone. For those with more questions than what the website or your tax software can handle, you can talk to the IRS, a tax planner, or an accountant with tax experience.
