Motivation for Generation X

Along the same lines of work/life balance, Anne Fischer from Fortune Magazine has written an article that looks at what Generation Xers want. It turns out that recognition, status, power, and cash are low on this generation’s list of desires, but a lattice structure (rather than a hierarchical ladder structure) and life outside of work rank high.

Companies that want to court young employees have recognized the traits. According to the article, the book, The NeXt Revolution by Charlotte and Laura Shelton is a good resource for the motivations of the Generation X workforce.

Not sure the exact cutoffs, but I think that I am in Gen X and I have to say that I kind of like the first bunch of desires…recognition, status, power, and most of all cash. The other two are ok, but would probably not top my list.
