False Tax Returns Cost NYC Millions

From the Associated Press:

Two accountants have been indicted on charges of tax evasion and helping hundreds of their clients file false city and state tax returns, resulting in the loss of millions of dollars.

These accountants, Jeffrey C. Rosner of Queens and David E. Cohen of Staten Island, charged up to $500 per tax return filed, and allegedly committed massive tax fraud by failing to report their considerable incomes and by helping a total of at least 600 clients evade taxes. Cohen is a professor at Rutgers — I can only imagine the business ethics he teaches. He has a website advertising his services. In bold letters, his website claims:

Mr. Cohen’s vast street-fighter’s knowledge of the unofficial rules and unique tactics of positioning can help you to succeed in dealing with the mazes and mousetraps in this [tax law] area.

You can also peruse Cohen’s public calendar. How forthcoming and honest!

New York City stands to recover $7.5 million, which I strongly suggest the city donates to me for bringing this story to the attention of my readers. I’ll settle for half of the recovery and I promise to report the income on my tax return.

Unbelievable… I tried to search for Cohen in their db but he doesn’t appear. Maybe he’s not even a professor and made that part up?

You’re such a concerned citizen! It only stands to reason that they give you a portion of the money!
