In addition to the new cable modem, here are some details on other money I spent this weekend.
Grocery shopping. I spent about $120 at Super Fresh, getting a variety of food that should last at least two weeks. This is probably the most I’ve spent on food in a while, but I “splurged” and bought some good cheese for crackers, frozen hors d’oevres that I like but haven’t had in years, and ice cream, in addition to the usual groceries.
I’ll be saving my grocery receipts from now on in order to compare prices from the three local grocery stores.
New York City. My girlfriend and I went into New York to see the show, I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change. We can get heavily discounted ticket prices since she is a member of the Theatre Development Fund. (You must be a teacher, student, or work for a non-profit organization to join and the annual dues are $25, but you can easily save anywhere from $20 to $65 on each ticket you buy.)
She purchased the show tickets and as well as dinner, which we had at a small barbecue restaurant a few blocks from the theater. I suppose it was sort of a Valentine’s Day gift from her. I purchased the train tickets to New York which ran about $35.
Other than dinner in New York, we ate in the entire weekend. We almost never go out to eat anymore and order delivery very rarely. From the weekend’s leftovers, I’ve premade lunches to bring in to work for the rest of the week. At the end of the month, I should have a good indication of whether these changes are saving me a significant amount of money.
