Next Thursday, I’m leaving for a family (and girlfriend) vacation to California (Orange County, Lake Tahoe, Los Angeles, Disneyland, etc.). When I return, I’ll be starting a new job with the same company at a location closer to where I live and nicer than Newark. This article came to me just in time, and thanks to Free Money Finance for bringing it to my attention.
Jim Citrin, who writes the Leadership by Example column for Yahoo Finance, presents Seven Ways to Start Your New Job Right. I’m not going to be in a position to follow some of the suggestions, such as transforming culture and shaping management teams, but I’ll be starting with a fresh view.
Here are the tips Citrin offers:

4. Craft Your Strategic Agenda

6. Establish a Productive Working Relationship with Your Board or Boss
7. Communicate!
Number Seven is the one that has always been a problem in my working environments, somewhat for me but moreso for the people I’ve worked with for some reason. I’ll do my best to encourage communication between everyone I work with. Here’s what Citrin has to say about communication:
Effective communication skills are the key to implementing just about everything, not only during the first 100 days, but all throughout your career. Unless you can communicate your goals and approach in a way that inspires others, your work… will count for naught. You will have wasted the organization’s readiness for change in the earliest days.
