This weekend, my girlfriend and I will be looking at apartments in North Jersey, on this side of the George Washington Bridge. We’ll be looking in areas like Englewood, Fort Lee, and Edgewater. I would like to find a two-bedroom apartment for around $1,600 a month (or less).
This location would be practically the midpoint between my job and the school where she currently teaches, but I’m not thrilled about going back to a long commute. I was just getting used to a nice, “short” 45-minute drive to the office.

Good luck. Long commutes most definitely are a real pain – even in Japan when I took the train so I could get my reading in on the way, it still wasn’t a whole lot of fun.

With the new job I started last week, I cut my commute from about an hour and fifteen minutes to 45. I’m not moving until around July 1, so by the time that rolls around, I’ll dread the increased time.

I feel your pain about the increased commute time. No one likes to sit in traffic. Try books on tape, they pass the time and can be valuable if you want to learn about a certain subject. I’ve been listening to “The Millionaire Next Door” excellent information.
