Tips for Hosting Garage Sales (Tag Sales, Yard Sales, etc.)

Ron Hall has a article on Gather.com which presents ten tips for hosting a successful garage sale. I won’t reprint all the tips as the article is short enough that readers can visit it directly. Ron focuses on visibility/advertising, parking, pricing, and timing.

There are many additional pointers provided by readers in the comments below the article as well.

We just had our community garage sale last month. I netted $475. I always do well at garage sales. Why? I’m not exactly sure. Last month, in the midst of our sale, I posted my ten garage sale tips, though. It’s more likely that people are drawn to my geeky treasures, though. As one guy said: “You don’t have the usual garage sale junk.” No, I don’t.

Also, the “have the sale on Saturday only” tip in the article you linked is BAD advice. Terrible. Yes, Saturday is the most profitable day, but you get new people every day, and plenty of return visitors. A one-day garage sale is dumb if you have the option go longer.
