Congratulations to My Friends Mentioned on MSNBC.com

MSNBC.com ran an article by Vanessa Richardson today. She looked at the blog-about-money phenomenon and focuses on a fiew blog-friends of mine, AllFinancialMatters, Budgeting Babe, Boston Gal’s Open Wallet, and Make Love, Not Debt.

There are a few interesting quotes as well as tips for those wishing to join the personal finance hemisphere of the blogosphere.

* Get advice from the pros. Budgeting Babe provided this tip. Entering an established community and ignoring the rest of the community is not a good idea. It amazes me when bloggers entering the community recently have admitted they had no idea there were other personal finance bloggers before they started their blog.
* Remember that it’s not about the money. Don’t expect to start making tons of money by writing a personal finance blog. As the community grows, income sources become more scarce and spread thin.
* Offer something new. Have you own voice and try to do something that isn’t out there already. Remember that not everyone is going to love everything you write.
* Consider how much information you want to share. Anonymity gives you flexibility in this case. While a few of my readers know my real identity, those who know me in real life aren’t going to find this blog too easily. I feel comfortable writing about my income and net worth, knowing that potential or current employers won’t find this site.
* Persevere. Just like running the country, creating a successful blog is hard work.

Great tips from everyone and publicity is beneficial for the bloggers who were mentioned. By the way, pfblogs.org was also cited as a good resource for finding interesting personal finance blogs.
