Night of Volunteering

by Flexo on July 10, 2006

I spent my evening volunteering at an event for the New York Philharmonic. That’s right; I stood outside in the hot and humid New Jersey weather, trying to convince patrons — 85% of whom were over the age of 60 — to write down their name, address, phone number and email address on a card so that they may have a chance at winning free tickets. (The addresses are culled into a database for marketing as well, of course.)

We had a successful night, and my rewards were listening to great live music performed by a number of the best musicians alive in the world and spending time with interesting, bright people. That seems fair.
