The IT Job Market Must Be Picking Up

by Flexo on October 4, 2006

in Career and Work

All of a sudden, in the past few weeks, I’ve been getting calls and emails from recruiters. Several a day have been trying to get in contact with me based on resumes I’ve left on Monster.com and CareerBuilder between one and a few years ago. These particular resumes were directed towards web programming (PHP, MySQL, etc.) positions.

The recruiters must be getting desparate.

Yes I’ve gotten quite a few recently as well with a similar skillset. I think most of them are finding me off dice.com. Too bad I’m not really interested in changing positions.

The flood of calls is annoying. Don’t pick up numbers you don’t recognize. I’ve learned to demand they send me a listing in writing and that I’m not willing to relocate. Half of the jobs they are calling about are short term contract in awful places. Oh, and they’re probably not even for jobs you actually want.

Yes, I’ve done helpdesk before. No way I’d go back. Why would a programmer want to go back to helpdesk? These people have no comprehension at all of what they are doing.
