Traveling for Thanksgiving

by Flexo on November 9, 2006. Travel 4 comments.

Once again, I’ll be traveling to California to visit my family for Thanksgiving. Last year, I wrote about my first flight on jetBlue. This year, the least expensive flight I could find was US Airways out of Philadelphia. I should have looked for tickets before Labor Day. This year, SideStep was a big help in finding the lowest prices. It covers more airlines than most travel sites, such as Expedia.

During the week in California, I should be keeping up with Consumerism Commentary as normal.

Have fun in California!

Sigh. I wish I was also going home to Cali. Instead I’ll be going to Boston to eat with my inlaws. I have good inlaws, so it’s no hardship, but a nice stiff breeze off the Pacific Ocean would do wonders for my mood right about now.

PS. See if Philadelphia ground control can manage to foul up your flight for you. It’s notoriously bad.

So how much did you spend? I was pleased to find a roundtrip on Southwest for $250, from Virginia to Missouri.

Just under $400 for Philadelphia to Los Angeles. It wasn’t the route I wanted to take, but it’s close enough.

That’s not bad. Philly can be a terribly expensive airport to fly from. My husband is from around there, and sometimes it made more sense to drive to the airport at Baltimore (or even Atlantic City!) than to fly from Philly.
