The biggest news in technology recently seems to be Apple’s announcement of the iPhone (and they’re already getting sued by Cisco over the name) as well as Apple TV. Perhaps it will be an exciting year for the technology sector.

David LaGesse reports that analysts are looking at short-term enthusiasm for technology, thanks to upgrades like Windows Vista and Office 2007, and an increase in corporate hardware spending.

If you’re looking for more details pertaining to the sub-sectors within technology, take a look at BusinessWeek and S&P’s 2007 Tech Sector Outlook: Part 1 and Part 2 [free].

So unless you believe that 2007’s growth is already priced into the current value of stocks, tech might be a good place to bet on for short-term gains this year. For non-market timers like me, technology is already represented in my long-term asset allocation.

Suggested ETF: Technology Select Sector SPDR (XLK)
