Roundup for the Week Ending October 13

by Flexo on October 13, 2007. Filed under Link Sharing.

Here are some interesting articles from the MoneyBlogNetwork and beyond. If you missed these articles over the last week, take a look now.

Separate Checking Accounts or Keep Them Joint? “Separate checking accounts might keep a spendthrift husband from ruining his joint finances with his frugal wife (or vice versa) for a while, but this is a quick fix rather than a long-term solution” [Mighty Bargain Hunter].

How to Escape Minimum Wage. “In most instances, hard work, patience, and education can counter the forces of history and bad luck” [Get Rich Slowly].

Buying a TV. “My maximum budget is $5,000 and my goal is to get the best I can for the money I’m spending. I would be happy to spend less as long as I’m not giving up quality” [AllFinancialMatters]. I weighed in with my experiences which I’ve shared here and here.

Give Yourself a (Pretend) Pay Cut. “What would happen if your boss came into your office tomorrow morning, and told you that your salary had been reduced by 15%?” [No Credit Needed].

Called By a Collection Agency. “Last night we returned home from a weekend away to a pair of phone messages asking me to call a certain phone number. One message was from a woman, the other was from a man” [FiveCentNickel].

Five Reasons You’ll Love a 401(k). “I’ve maxed out my 401k for years now and the amounts I have saved from them (I have a 401k as well as an IRA rolled over from previous jobs’ 401ks) is amazing” [Free Money Finance].

7 Personal Finance Lessons From the Poker Table. “I would never consider myself really good at the game but I played a style that was probably more conservative than most (tight aggressive is what they’d call it), which probably mirrors my personal finance life strategy” [Blueprint for Financial Prosperity].

Poorer Than You and the Blogging Scholarship. “The scholarship committee reviewed my application and, along with 19 other finalists, I’m enjoying a position of honor right now. I’ll tell you: I’m truly ecstatic just to have been chosen as a finalist. And now the decision is up to voters” [Poorer Than You]. I voted for Stephanie Collins and you should, too.

Eliminate Debt With 10 Successful Diet Principles. “I realized that the same successful principles these people follow are the same ones that will get you out of debt and keep you out of debt” [Zen Habits].

I read most of these blogs, but it’s nice to have a round up for a refresher. Some weeks I’m not able to read all the stories.

$5k for a TV is way too much.
