Economic Stimulus Rebate Schedule: When You’ll Receive Your Rebate

The IRS has posted a schedule indicating when tax payers, if eligible, will receive their tax payments. Keep in mind that these are estimates and the IRS could very well not meet this schedule. The schedule is based on the final two digits of your Social Security number. If you file jointly, use the last two digits of the primary filer’s Social Security number.

If the IRS has your banking information on file, as they would if you entered the information on your 2007 tax return in anticipation of a refund via direct deposit, these are the dates by which you will (most likely) receive your refund.

00 through 20: May 2
21 through 75: May 9
76 through 99: May 16

If the IRS does not have your direct deposit information on file, then you can expect a check to arrive based on this schedule (approximately).

00 through 09: May 16
10 through 18: May 23
19 through 25: May 30
26 through 38: June 6
39 through 51: June 13
52 through 63: June 20
64 through 75: June 27
76 through 87: July 4
88 through 99: July 11

Thanks for keeping track of this information. I appreciated the earlier postings about the tax rebate iteself, the calculator, and now the E.T.A. of the checks (or direct depost). I like to know when money is coming in to better plan for it. If things change, I know you let your readers know.

If I requested that the IRS draw tax owed from a checking account, will they be likely to use the same account for direct deposit? Has that been addressed?

Huffles: Yes, if you entered your banking information (routing/ABA number and account number) on your tax form when filing your taxes, the IRS should send your rebate via direct deposit to the account you listed.

if i never received a letter or notice of a rebate does that mean i wont receive one ?
i have moved since ive filed my return but i have changed my address with the irs and local post office will that affect me receivein a rebate on the dates posted?

    April 28th, 2008 at 2:39 pm

If you had your refund loaded onto HR Block’s preparid Mastercard, if you paid yours directly (cash, check or credit card), then your rebate will go onto this card. However, if you used any tax preparation service and had “the fees withheld” meaning you didn’t directly pay for them, then your rebate will come by mail.

Secondly, the rebate notices or mailings were sent out to the addresses from your 2006 tax return. Whatever address you had on file for 06 is where the letter went.

Also, the IRS started direct depositing TODAY! And will continue Tuesday, Wednessday and Friday with checks starting to be mailed on Saturday. Have fun with the money!

I’m a beautiful, wonderful taxpayer, but I’m also a dependent of my parents. Will I still be getting a stimulus check? If so, how much can I expect?

Also, I didn’t have my rebate direct deposited, but fortunately I fall into the May 16th check timeframe. Hooray!

I would like to know why IRS is allowed to attach my Stimulus Tax Rebate instead of giving it to me. I do have an outstanding balance with them….BUT, the intention of the Stimulus Tax Rebate was to beef up the economy by giving consumer some additional money for SPENDING! What is the rationale here? Should I write my Congressman to complain?

When I first filed my 2007 taxes my dependants SS# was entered incorrectly by my tax preparer therefore made her ineligible. I fixed the situation with the IRS over the phone. It delayed my receiving my refund direct deposit by about 2 weeks – but I did receive it in the amount I was expecting. Today, I received my stimulus check but WITHOUT the $300 for my dependent. Will I be getting that sometime in the next month?

So if the stimulus letters are going to the address that was on our 2006 tax refunds, what happens if we didn’t file a tax refund in 2006? I still haven’t received my letter, but I filed taxes this year. My stimulus should have been deposited by today. What to do?

ATTEN: PINKROSE – I got my rebate via direct deposit yesterday. I filed my taxes with Turbo Tax online so I was worried I would be waiting forever for a check but that wasn’t the case. I was able to file with TT for free but I have heard that if you PAY to file your taxes (if they take a fee from you) then you have to wait for a check. Whether this is true or not I do not know. Yay! Time to pay for my son’s soccer camp!

If you used Turbotax and had your tax preperation fees deducted from your refund, you will receive a paper check rebate, not a direct deposit. Turbotax also posted this information on their website.

So today I read that if I’m married filing separate, that both my wife and I will only get $300 each back? This is not good as all I’ve heard is that those who are married will get $600 per person back. Turbo Tax said nothing about this when filing my returns, none of this was said leading up to April 15th (publicly) and now I see that if we were to have filed jointly, we could have gotten $600 more. Is this true? Ouch, thanks “W”!

Please note that my last 2 digits of SS# are actually 34 in lieu of what I erroneously listed as 53. My question remains the same – is there anyway to have my rebate changed to direct deposit now?

Most of your questions are answered here:
    http://www.irs.gov/newsroom/article/0,,id=181997,00.html

    For the lazy:
    Q. When will I receive my stimulus payment?

    A. The Treasury Department began making payments on April 28. Early filers, especially those who chose direct deposit, are getting their payments first.

If the IRS finished processing your return by April 15, you will most likely get your payment based on this schedule. If you chose direct deposit, this means your payment will arrive on May 2, May 9 or May 16. If you did not choose direct deposit, checks will be mailed between mid-May and mid-July. For this initial batch of stimulus payments, the payment date is based on the last two digits of your Social Security number. [Updated 5/8/08]

    Q. I filed my return on time, but I haven’t received my stimulus payment, even though the payment date listed for my Social Security number has passed. Why?

    A. In general, the payment schedule only applies if your return was received and the IRS finished processing your return before April 15. If you filed your return on time, but close to the April 15 deadline, the IRS may not have finished processing it before April 15.

Processing times for tax returns and stimulus payments vary. If you are getting a regular income-tax refund, the IRS will send you that refund first. Normally, your stimulus payment will follow one to two weeks later.

If you are not expecting a regular tax refund, your stimulus payment should arrive a minimum of six weeks after you file.

    Q. I filed after April 15 and the payment date for my Social Security number has passed. How long will it take for me to get my stimulus payment?

    A. It will generally take a minimum of six weeks after you file your return to get your stimulus payment.

    Q. Will my stimulus payment be included in my regular tax refund? Will the checks or direct deposits come at the same time?

    A. No and no. There will be two payments. You will receive one payment for your regular tax refund and later you will receive a separate stimulus payment.

    Q. To which address will my stimulus payment be mailed?

    A. The stimulus payment will be mailed to your last known address the IRS has on file. [New 4/11/08]

    Q. I have moved since filing my 2007 tax return. How will my payment reach me?

    A. You should file a Form 8822 with the IRS and a change of address notice with the U.S. Postal Service. This will ensure your check is sent to your new address. Without your current address, the check could be returned to the IRS as undeliverable.

I should have received my check direct deposit on may 9th, but did not, I did not pay any fees for prep of federal, but I did have what I owed to the state deducted from my federal return, does that mean I will get a paper check? Also, if I owed the state any monies would I even get a stimulus check?

  42. Comment #42 by Flexo (reply)
    May 26th, 2008 at 5:13 pm

Chelle: If anything was deducted from your federal refund, then the IRS does not have your banking information. The IRS paid your tax preparer and your tax preparer deducted what you owe for the state and paid the rest to you. Therefore, you will receive a paper check.
