The codes are only valid for one use each, so you’ll have to be quick to use one before someone else does. There is some fine print, of course, restricting you to certain account features in order to receive the free money. You can bring a coupon code to a branch or use one to open the checking account online.
This is not a free checking account; in order to avoid an undisclosed monthly fee, you will need to use the account for direct deposit or have at least five debit card purchases each month. After some research online, I was able to quickly discover that this fee is $6 per month.
Here is what it says on the back of the certificate:
To qualify for the reward you must open new Chase Checking account with a $100 minimum opening deposit of new money (money not currently held at Chase or its affiliates). Bonus will be automatically deposited into your new account within 10 business days of account opening, but not considered part of minimum opening deposit… Your Chase Checking account must remain open for a minimum of six months or the bonus will be debited from the account at closing… Bonus is considered interest and will be reported on IRS for 1099-INT.

This makes no sense to me? In order to get $100 now, you have to pay $6 a month for the life of the checking account. Over a ten year period of time, that will COST you $620!! Wouldn’t it be smarter to skip all the jump now nonsense and request a FREE checking account. It’ll never cost you (unless you bounce a check) and in the above comparison, it’ll save you $720 over a 10-year period. The smart money would be on the free checking account. Everyone knows you don’t get anything for free.
Rando: You can avoid the monthly fee by initiating Direct Deposit or making 5 debit card purchases a month. This is what Chase considers the “free” checking account. You can avoid the monthly fee *and* get the $100 bonus.
I used a $125 coupon offer from Chase to open a checking account. I set-up direct deposit and left the money there for 6 months. Once I was passed that 6 month date, I closed the account. An easy way to make a little extra money from Chase. I don’t think they made any money off of me, since I never used the debit card, checks or had any fees on the account.

I opened my checking account on 09/1991 and was forced to close it after someone fraudulently started using my account to make electronic payments. I had to open a new account and go through all the hassles of switching payment options, direct deposit, etc., burning alot of time.
