Some Changes Afoot at Consumerism Commentary

by Luke Landes

I’ve finally transported this blog to WordPress. Once I finish improving the design, we should be running ahead at full steam (or full speed). Most importantly, all the old links still work. It will be some time until I have all the links to other blogs added back in. In the meantime, check out the ... Continue reading this article…

Administrative Note – I’m Fed Up

by Luke Landes

It’s an understatement to say my time is pretty limited. Writing entries for the blog is difficult enough, but I shouldn’t have to spend so much time deleting spam comments. I’ve had it with junk. The spam filter built into this blogging software, Movable Type, does not function properly. Almost all of my other blogs ... Continue reading this article…

Link Updates

by Luke Landes

I’ve made some updates to the links in my sidebar here, getting rid of some blogs that have been inactive for months and adding some others I’ve discovered recently. If I’m missing yours, leave a comment! The personal finance blogging community has certainly grown in the last year.

Happy New Year!

by Luke Landes

Have a great new year! Thanks to all the readers who made 2005 a successful year for Consumerism Commentary. I’ve gained a lot of knowledge through the blog, which is my definition of success. Just to see where I’m coming from, here is my first post, which included a net worth update and here’s the ... Continue reading this article…

Best Of 2005

by Luke Landes

As the year is coming to a close, and I will be less available over the next few days, the opportunity is perfect for taking a look at Consumerism Commentary and compiling a list of “best” (or most popular) entries from the year. This will be the 570th entry in 2005, but only a few ... Continue reading this article…

Consumerism Commentary RSS Feeds

by Luke Landes

Readers might be aware that Consumerism Commentary offers an RSS Feed of recent entries, so all readers can stay up-to-date by reading partial entries in their news readers. The RSS Feed includes only a short excerpt. However, if you are a frequent commenter (that is, your name is on this list), I’ll send you information ... Continue reading this article…

Movable Type Enhancements

by Luke Landes

Last night, I added support for FastCGI to Consumerism Commentary. This supposedly speeds some things up around here, mostly administration tasks. If you notice any problems with the website, please let me know immediately! Note: I have since disabled FastCGI as it seemed to cause problems with my comments and trackbacks, though I believe everything ... Continue reading this article…

Interview With Flexo

by Luke Landes

A few weeks ago, Paul from 10 Questions asked me to take part in an interview. That interview has now been published online, so if you want to learn a little more about me, take a look.

Thank Your First Commenter Day

by Luke Landes

In honor of Thank Your First Customer Day, I’d like to thank Darren R. Sussman, who was the first commenter on Consumerism Commentary (out of 1,127 comments), and he commented on the entry entitled, Owning a Home, Owing Money. Here is what he wrote: Well, of course. Buying a house is an investment, and a ... Continue reading this article…

Downtime, Flight Time

by Luke Landes

Sorry for the downtime Consumerism Commentary readers experienced earlier today. My web service provider was having some router problems, but everything seems to be fixed… for the moment, anyway. We weren’t the only ones with computer issues; the New York Mercantile Exchange (NYMEX) had to suspend trading for some time earlier today because of a ... Continue reading this article…

The Cat Is Out Of The Bag

by Luke Landes

Jungle Magazine, a publication focusing on business education and the eminent Master of Business Administration degree, has done a good job writing up Consumerism Commentary for one of the magazine’s past issues. I believe the article was published earlier this year but only recently did it become available online. They let the cat out of ... Continue reading this article…

Out of Commission

by Luke Landes

I’ll be out of commission today and probably for the next few days while I’m recovering from surgery. In the mean time, feel free to browse some recent posts or start from the beginning? I found myself upon an advance copy of Lee Eisenberg’s new book, The Number, (blog here) which will be released on ... Continue reading this article…

Cleaning House

by Luke Landes

You may notice some changes around here. Consumerism Commentary has a new design that’s easy on the eyes and makes the posts easier to read, while information in the sidebar is easier to get to. I’ve also removed links to blogs whose authors haven’t posted in several months. Speaking of blogs, there have been many ... Continue reading this article…

Site Outage

by Luke Landes

We appear to be back online, if a little slow. It seems the power outage in Los Angeles — blame Wil Wheaton if you want, but the official excuse is that someone “inadvertently cut a power cable” — had this site (and many, many others) out of commission for several hours. Hopefully the sites are ... Continue reading this article…

Some Changes

by Luke Landes

If you visit Consumerism Commentary (rather than reading from an RSS feed reader), you may notice some changes to the appearance. I’m working on making the web site more standards compliant, although perfect compliance is impossible due to the Adsense ads. There will continue to be some changes as I find time to implement them.

Welcome Again to WSJ Readers

by Luke Landes

Once again, Consumerism Commentary was mentioned in the Wall Street Journal. Welcome to any new readers! (Of course, it would have been helpful if the online article contained hyperlinks to all the websites mentioned.) Updates have been a little slow over the past seven days as I had been on vacation and am now trying ... Continue reading this article…

The State of the Web

by Luke Landes

As blogging became more mainsteam — first in 2000 with Blogger, then after 2001 with all the political blogs that arose from seemingly nowhere — new business models developed. On one front, bloggers have convinced the corporate world that blogs should be an integral part of a company’s marketing and public relations plan. It’s a ... Continue reading this article…
