This is the second article in my monthly short series in which I report my financial details. This income report goes along with the balance sheet recently posted.
September was more of a typical month than the past few. I had fewer out of the ordinary expenses, but I’ll get to that in a little bit. First, here are the numbers. Click on the thumbnail to see the full report. Read the rest of this article »

This may seem “weird” to new Consumerism Commentary readers, but this blog started as a place for me to semi-publicly track my financial progress. Each month, I take a look at my finances in excruciating detail, and now it’s time to look at my “modified net worth” for the end of the month of September 2007.
My modified net worth increased by about $10,000 this month, thanks mainly to increasing income. Continue reading for the numbers. Read the rest of this article »

This is the second article in my monthly financial reporting; in order to get a full picture of how I fared in August, take a look at my balance sheet posted last night in addition to this article.
A vacation, a living room upgrade, and a new bedroom furniture set provided a negative force on my bank accounts, while they were positive supported by three day-job paychecks and above-average business income. A housewarming gift from a relative helped ease the pain of paying for bedroom furniture. Here are the details. Read the rest of this article »

As regular readers know, at the beginning of every month, I check in with some financial reporting. This helps keep me focused on making better decisions throughout the month concerning use and abuse of my money. Keeping track of my finances was what originally started me on the path not necessarily to getting “rich,” but thinking responsibly about money and keeping myself in positive territory.
On Consumerism Commentary, I report my “modified net worth” which includes all my assets subtracted all my liabilities, without including the value of my home inventory and small coin collection, or my immediate theoretical tax liability that would result from liquidating my accounts.
There were several important items that helped August end on a good note. First, it was one of two three-paycheck months this year. Secondly, my business income continues to grow.
Here are my numbers, followed my answers my some frequently asked questions and general commentary. Please read those remarks before commenting. Read the rest of this article »

Personal Income Statement, July 2007 (Net Income: $4,646)

to get a complete picture of my finances as of July 31, 2007, please read my latest balance sheet if you haven’t done so already. This is the second part of my monthly reporting, the income and expense statement.
This was another out-of-the-ordinary month. The lease on my new apartment began at the end of June and I officially moved in during the first few days of July. I had a lot of furnishing expenses this month, and unfortunately that is not over. I still need to buy two major pieces of furniture, a desk and a dresser. My old desk is functioning for now, but the dresser is more of a high priority item.
Despite this, I won’t be able to think about it until I return from my vacation. Keep reading for the numbers and explanations. Read the rest of this article »

If you’re new to Consumerism Commentary, this may seem like a strange concept. Every month I share my financial reports down to the dollar. It is a summary of all of my account balances as well as a rough estimate of the value of my larger assets. It is not a complete net worth report because it does not include tax liability or fees for liquidation of investments, so I have been calling the bottom line my “modified net worth.”
Earlier this month, I passed a milestone as my modified net worth exceeded $100,000. Meanwhile, the market and my investments faltered. Keep reading for my balances as of July 31, 2007, followed by frequently asked questions and explanations. Read the rest of this article »
