Finally CNN Money has listened to my ranting and posted a Millionaire in the Making article about a single person rather than a couple. I don’t have any commentary other than that.

MM from PFBlog posted a link to an article by Dustin Woodward, a Webmaster/Researcher for an investment advisory firm, called What it Takes to Be a Millionaire. Having a Six-Figure Salary Doesn’t Hurt (But I Wouldn’t Know)

by Luke Landes

In this article from CNN Money, Marc and Elesya cite MONEY Magazine (CNN Money’s offline counterpart) with helping them determine their strategies for building their net worth. Happy New Year! My financial resolution is to cut my spending for 2005. First of all, I’m switching from Microsoft Money 2003 to Quicken 2005 Premier Home & Business. I’ll run both programs simultaneously for a month or so, and then get rid of Money. All of my historical transactions are still in Money so ... Continue reading this article…

Listen. Can you hear it? It’s the sound of money disappearing from my savings. It’s been going on for many months now. I haven’t been able to save as much as I used to, and I’ve had to dip into my savings more often than I have wanted. I think the reason for this is ... Continue reading this article…

Residual Value

by Luke Landes

I like to see this as vindication for my purchase… Honda has been named by the Automotive Lease Guide as being the best brand for residual value for the second year in a row. That means its cars hold its value over time. However, if the results are divided into categories, the Nissan Altima displaced ... Continue reading this article…

Anxiously Awaiting?

Thanks for writing in; I know I’ve been a little slow with November’s financial update. It would be more accurate to say that I haven’t posted it at all yet, which is entirely true. You are anxiously awaiting my monthly update, but you (and I) will be disappointed to see only a minor improvement, if ... Continue reading this article…

Win Ben Stein’s Advice

by Luke Landes

I am going to make this really simple. It is fine to have no money when you’re young. It is not fine to have no money when you’re old. It is even fun to be poor when you’re in college or right out of it. But to be retired and in your 70′s and not ... Continue reading this article…

Into The Woodses

Once again, here’s another Millionaire in the Making story where most of the money is based on property ownership. One of their properties, a condominium, was foreclosed when their broker found it for them. That’s a great way to save some money in many cases. I like the fact the couple met online. That’s more ... Not-So-Good Realization

by Luke Landes

Remember when I was happy to realize I would be receiving three paychecks in December? I miscalculated. However, I will be receiving three paychecks this month, with the third one coming in next Friday. It’s a good thing, too, since I’ve been feeling financially strained lately. It would have been nice to have that “surprise” ... Continue reading this article…

According to the Environmental Protection Agency, the Honda Civic Hybrid beats out the Toyota Prius for best gas-mileage (61 mpg city/66 mpg highway versus 60/51). Auto Insurance – Yikes!

When I had my 1997 Honda Civic, and with an excess of points from my “wild and crazy” days that I’m waiting to drop off my record, my auto insurance premium was already high. I don’t have the policy in front of me, but it was around $3,400 per year. In June, I purchased a ... Continue reading this article…
