Happy Cinco de Mayo! I’m continuing Giveaway May at Consumerism Commentary today with some help from Sustainable Personal Finance, another great money-related website. SPF is helping me increase the giveaway for today. For today’s giveaway, we’re turning to RSS feeds again. RSS is the perfect way to keep up-to-date with your favorite websites. I use Google Reader and Flipboard on the iPad to read new articles from a selection of blogs and other sites, and the RSS feed is the technology that makes this work.

Since we’re working with a partner today who’s offering a matching prize — the total value of today’s winning is about $100 — there’s a catch to the challenge. Nevertheless, it’s still pretty easy. Plus, if you’ve already subscribed to the Consumerism Commentary feed, you’re halfway done. Here is what you need to do to win $50 in Amazon.com Gift Cards, $25 via PayPal, and the smartphone cover:

1. Subscribe to the Consumerism Commentary RSS feed using your favorite RSS reader. You can use these buttons to add Consumerism Commentary directly into your favorite software, and if you’re already a subscriber, you can skip this step.
   
2. Subscribe to the Sustainable Personal Finance RSS feed using your favorite RSS reader. You can use these buttons, and if you’re already a subscriber, you can skip this step.
   
3. Look for the phrases of the day at the end of the latest articles in your RSS reader. There will be one phrase from Consumerism Commentary and a different phrase from Sustainable Personal Finance.
4. Email both phrases of the day to may5@consumerismcommentary.com by 10:00 PM Eastern Time tonight, May 5, 2011.

I will select one winner randomly from the emails I receive with the correct phrases of the day. Within the next few days, I will contact the winner to confirm he or she is eligible to receive the gifts.
