You may have noticed that Consumerism Commentary authors, like myself and Smithee, and some commenters, have points and ranks displayed alongside their names. I’ve implemented a new feature on Consumerism Commentary in which visitors can earn points by participating in the discussions following every article and by visiting Consumerism Commentary every day. There will be other ways to earn points as well, and these points will be available to trade in for goodies like books and gift cards. If you haven’t already, register for an account to accumulate your points, and make sure you log in before participating in discussions.
Once you create an account, you can choose to link your Consumerism Commentary profile with your Facebook and Twitter accounts, as well.
You can find links to log in at the top of every page on Consumerism Commentary, and when you are logged in, you will see your current points in that location.

I just found you and quickly created an account and signed up to receive the newsletter. I am so looking forward to all that you have to share. Thank you. =)
Thanks, Cass! Nice to meet you.
Is there a page where I can learn more about redeeming points?
Not yet — I’m still working on the details and attempting to incorporate even more ways to earn points.
Thanks for creating this program – I usually visit every day but this will be an added incentive!
I just created an account! This should be fun. How about a way to upload a picture for our avatar?
There are a couple of options. You can go to your profile page and link your Twitter and/or Facebook account. You could go to gravatar and upload a global avatar that works across a number of blogs. Or you can go to your profile page and upload an avatar to Consumerism Commentary directly.
Well since I visit almost daily anyways, this is just extra gravy. :)
Just wanted to add that I am enjoying this incentive program, not only because of the possible rewards earned, but it has truly giving me motivation to participate more in this forum. I am truly enjoying my participation in the forum.
Glad to hear it! It’s great to see your participation. The first reward will be announced about a week from now.
I am very happy to see the points added since I visit your blog every day.
Are points credited only when reading via a web browser? Or is there a way to credit for us RSS readers? :)
Alas, I have no way of knowing who’s reading via RSS unless someone visits the website and logs in. People who read via RSS are welcome to stop by the website and comment on articles.
