Some people know I'm a fan of the British TV series, Doctor Who.  I've been one since I was a kid. It must have been on a lot when I was young, because some of my younger brother's first words were related to Doctor Who.

I know that television is often a waste of time and mental energy, but I like being entertained, especially when I need to unwind.  What do you like to watch?

We have a lot of shows, although that number has been pared down recently as we've worked to be more productive on the weekends and have instituted a "No TV after 9 p.m." on weeknights in our house (we're doing a lot more reading now).

The favorites (i.e., what gets saved on our DVR):
- The Daily Show
- The Colbert Report
- 30 Rock
- The Office
- Pushing Daisies
- Gossip Girl (this one is all me; Jason tries to complain, but he watches it out of the corner of his eye...)
- Life
- Mythbusters
- Mad Men
- The Amazing Race
- Heroes
- How I Met Your Mother

We also have some "bubble" shows that we catch from time to time (or that I buy to watch on iTunes) but don't record or watch regularly
- Chuck
- Samantha Who?
- The New Adventures of Old Christine
- Without a Trace
- Ugly Betty

And when I'm working from home and watching TV (I have to have it on - quiet distracts me), I watch WAY too much Law & Order. Smiley

It's amazing sometimes how little television I watch, but this season seems to have a lot of shows that I'm interested in.

- Eli Stone
- Pushing Daisies
- Doctor Who (if it ever comes back on sometime soon!  Angry )
- Sanctuary
- Stargate Atlantis
- Torchwood
- Smallville
- Heroes
- Grey's Anatomy (with the wife)
- True Blood
- Eureka
- Chuck
- Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles

Add to that various shows on Adult Swim, and I'm a happy camper.

Wow, amazing lists.  You would think that a young 20-something would be up to speed with tv shows but sadly, I don't watch much of anything.  The only time I watch TV is to catch some sports or flip through channels to relax (even then it doesn't happen too often).

These are the other shows I enjoy, though it's quite hard to find time:

- The Big Bang Theory
- 2.5 Men
- Heroes
- How I Met Your Mother
- House
- Boston Legal
- Life on Mars (still need to find the BBC version though)
- The Office
- 30 Rock

Shows I liked before they were canceled:

- Arrested Development
- The West Wing

We don't get to watch too much TV while my 2-year old daughter is up and about, so most of our TV watching is off of the media center after 8:30.  Here's what we watch right now (or at least when they're in-season):

  • Chuck
  • Heroes
  • House
  • LOST
  • Terminator: SCC
  • Psych
  • Monk
  • Good Eats

We'll probably be canceling cable soon and putting up an antenna.  I hope that we can get a strong enough signal to at least pick up the major broadcast stations.  We'll lose USA and Food Network for sure, but at least I can replace some of that with my Netflix subscription.

Normally I watch very little TV, just the 10 o'clock news and Days of Our Lives, which I tape on a VCR.  Not too long ago, we got cable TV, something I'd resisted for years because I think TV reception is not something one should pay for.  I recently came across MSNBC, Keith Olbermann and Rachel Maddow, and have been enjoying that, because my husband turns it on.  The only time I've turned on the TV beyond watching my taped soap is for the debates.  I prefer the computer to the TV.  We aren't movie people either, and the only reason I saw Sicko is because I was online and a friend told me that it was available on the 'net.  Great and relevant movie, which is really the exception as far as movies go.

I still say Dark Shadows is one of the best shows ever.   Grin

My problem now with TV is that over the past year, I've adapted to HD and I generally only watch programs on HD stations.  Comedy Central's out. I just never remember to tune into a channel with a low number.

But really, there's so muh stuff to watch and so little time, that I can't spend too much effort worrying about it.

Flexo, I hear you...not enough time to watch everything.  I get by with a DVR.  There's a huge soccer competition going on right now with with three games on a day for two days.  The DVR has saved me.

Yeah, Tivo is my friend too. I was kidding my son about it last night because he was watching a show as it was airing and was trying to fast forward through each of the commercials. He forgot it was real-time.

I have done this on a number of occasions.  Now the commercials appear within the shows themselves.  For example, Jane Seymour and her Kay Jewelers necklace made a guest appearance in My Name is Earl, with particular attention in the scripe to the necklace... the segment was followed by a more traditional commercial with Jane Seymoour for her Kay Jewelers necklace.

I am a shameful TV lover. My favorites that I watch every week these days:

House
Bones
Chuck
24
Burn Notice
Battlestar Galactica (I have yet to watch the last 2 of the series; I've been saving it)
Lost
NCIS
Fringe
Dollhouse
Lie to Me

to name a few .... I loved Crusoe and was really disappointed they canceled it. Wow, I think I watch way too much TV...

Favorites from the good ole days:

X-Files
Friends
I Love Lucy
Happy Days
The Wonder Years

Thank goodness I don't get cable; it'd be such a time and brain suck. Shocked
