I wrote a post today and I mentioned tutoring as a good job to help students. What jobs do you think work best with a college student? What jobs did you have in college?

I worked in the music library... but only during the summer when I was taking one or two courses. These types of college jobs are good because you can spend some of your time studying or working on your own projects when you're not helping customers.  (And the music library was very slow over the summer.)  I also designed websites for collegiate departments and personal websites for professors.  These days, everyone can design their own websites so it's not a sought-after skill, and now universities usually have professionals dedicated to web development.  But it was a good job for me while I was in college.

I pretty much did whatever job worked with my schedule that semester. I worked at 2 pizza shops. I sold alcohol at a local concert venue. I tutored. I did front desk and reservations at a hotel. I hated the telemarketing job, I didn't enjoy the quotas on top of selling a bad product. I didn't last too long there.

Yeah, Telemarketing sucks. I lasted one day, and never went back.

I've heard you can make quite a bit of money blogging though.  Ever think about trying that?

Yeah, I was in college during the 2000 census, and I remember hearing about college kids doing that. I worked at the library for a while, as well as the information desk in our student union. I had friends who worked at hotels and a local video store. I went to school in a touristy place, and also gave ghost tours at night, which was fantastic--I used the tips for my spending money, and socked away my paychecks.

I remember convenience stores and restaurants as being my primary jobs in college.  My son is doing work-study on campus in some departmental office and supposedly looking for another job in town.  He worked as a pizza delivery boy for awhile.
