Xbox, Playstation, GameCube - they all play to the infinitely growing impatience among young people. Games are offering less "game," a higher price, and flash over substance. Parents buy their kids overpriced merchandise because "everybody has one," and the need to shut Jonny's whining up with a game is strong. Where PC's give you lasting titles like "Civilization," you're lucky to get two weeks out of a console title, and more, games are made easier and easier by cheat codes and the like so that kids will run out and spend upwards of $50 on the sequel with even more flash. All the Xbox 360 titles have been unimpressive; indeed, the graphics look like the old Xbox, and just when a console starts to shine - and this happens after a console's been out for some years - they put out the next one. PS2, for example, is offering some of its best games now because developers have finally grasped the console: they know how to make a good game. Alas, the time is to scrap the old and lay down $500+ for the new in that fruitless search for satisfaction. Go outside and throw the ball around.

Thats no big deal, as the games are so expensive. Microsoft can always cover the cost in games licenses. Its like getting the cellphone for free (which is also sold at loss) when you sign up for 1 year agreement.

I'm going to sit this one out. I bought the first Xbox and really didn't use it all that much. I am looking forward to playing it at a friends house though.

I find it really interesting how such a simple thing as controlling supply like this can really create a frenzy. I suppose it doesn't hurt that they timed the release right around the "frenzy" month before Christmas.
