This year, the Naked With Cash series has been a great success. Through December, we will continue to hear from our seven participants and the three Certified Financial Planners assigned to them as they track their finances and share their latest net worth reports.
This concept was the initial inspiration behind Consumerism Commentary. I wanted a website where I could be held accountable for the decisions I make on a daily basis, and I would have to live up to those decisions publicly when I shared my net worth with the world. At first, there weren’t many readers paying attention, but once word was spread that a guy calling himself “Flexo” was putting his financial accounts online for the world to see, readers joined my on my journey.
Personally, I gained a lot by learning from readers and continuing my self-examination. Naked With Cash gives me the chance to provide a similar opportunity for others.
In the long-term, I see Naked With Cash expanding into other media, and we’re taking a small step with plans for “Season Two” of Naked With Cash in 2014. First, to keep everything simpler to manage, there will be three participants rather than seven. I plan to accept applications for new participants — this year’s participants are welcome to apply to continue. All three experts, Neal Frankle, Sara Stanich, and Roger Wohlner have signed on for the second season, and this year, their responses will be in the form of video. I’m excited about the opportunity to bring the Certified Financial Planners closer to the audience through multimedia.
Below is the application form, embedded in this website. If you can’t see the form, follow this link. In 2014, we are looking for three participants in diverse but compelling financial situations. I am putting together a group of households that would benefit the most from publicly tracking their finances and receiving feedback from a Certified Financial Planner who follows the stories from month to month. We want to highlight any challenges as well as any successes.
The 2013 series has been successful, but I’ve learned from the experience, and I have a team working behind the scenes to ensure “Season Two” of Naked With Cash will be something no one will want to miss.
If you are interested in being considered as a participant in 2014, understand that at the very beginning of every month, you will be expected to submit a report that includes your net worth, income and expenses for the prior month. For example, by February 2, you will submit your report for January as of January 31. We are expanding but simplifying the reporting requirements this year to make the reporting easier but more meaningful.
Also, if you are selected as a participant, consider the fact that a Certified Financial Planner is offering his or her time and advice free to you; please consider listening to and responding to the CFP, and try to take the advice to heart.
If, after understanding the above, you are still interested, continue reading or click here to complete the application.
