You have to be a little careful with "choosing cheap" problem---generics in many cases are as good as brand names (I'm thinking food products and drugstore purchases here), and clothing is truly a balancing act. Yes it's better to buy a $600 suit versus two $300 suits, but I'm not sure I agree on the jeans example, simply because I haven't a clue where you'd get clothes for $20 that would last you 5 years.

Buying cheap products is a big one, especially with furniture. Some times people want to say or be frugal so they think by buying something cheap it can help them out. But it could end up costing more with maintenance or if the product doesn't have the life line and needs to be replaced earlier than later.

I have a habit of delaying doctor visits too. It's not so much that I am trying to save money, its just I hate doctors visits unless I have problem of course.

Buying products in smaller packages - This is so true. I made this mistake on dog food. I would run in to the local pet store and buy a small bag of food without looking at the price. Then one day I woke up, looked at the huge bag price and saw it was like 40% less than what was I paying. I was pretty ticked off so I bought the big bag and now I put most of it in storage. I go to the store less (which I like) and I save money (which I love)!

Great post! I agree with all your points (especially not ignoring medical care), except that bigger packages are not *always* better. Pretty frequently, a smaller package has a lower cost per unit. It happens often enough to make it worthwhile to do the math.

I agree about buying good quality clothes (and shoes, especially). The only exception might be childrens' clothing - they grow out of things so quickly.
