The Market Goes Up When Congress is Out

by Flexo

I heard an interesting story on Marketplace yesterday evening. Apparently, the statistics show that the stock market performs better when the U.S. Congress is on vacation. They call it the Congressional Effect: the fact that Wall Street does better in periods like August, when Congress is on holiday. And not just somewhat better. Nearly all ... Thinking About The Future

by Flexo

Most of my investing is for the future — the far future. While I can’t predict what the future will bring, other people have some good ideas. Take global warming for instance. What More Could Be Said

by Flexo

The country is obivously still reeling from Katrina. While talking about anything else makes little sense, with every blogger already writing about the event, evaluating governmental response, placing blame, and/or declaring on how they will give money to support those seeking refuge, I feel like the topic has been talked out. The logical conclusion of ... Continue reading this article…

That Is Really Offensive

by Flexo

Some of my favorite commercials on television right now are GEICO spots. You know the ones. Salesman/actor: “Buying car insurance from GEICO is so simple, even a caveman could do it.” Caveman: “That is so offensive.” Seth Stevenson from Slate Magazine feels the same way and cites another good one, the “Tiny House reality series” ...
