So true. We get too comfortable in our situation, even if it's not what we really wanted.

This post really hit the nail on the head about finding your passions and living for them.

I know I'm too risk averse in life, which is ironic since as an investor I'm like a risk magnet! (In the technical sense - i.e. I invest largely in equities and even individual stocks etc). The problem for most people is change involves risk, even if the outcome is ultimately positive.

Thanks for the wake up reminder.

It's funny because when I was younger, I used to say that I would never get caught up in this scenario. That I would figure out why it happens and prevent it; "it" being gaining weight when you get older, stop playing sports because of responsibility, stop living the dreams we were reaching for in our early adult life, etc... But here I am, stuck in 'it' scenario and I am damned if I am going to stay here. I have lost my 'dreams' somewhere, have a blank palate and am gonna try like hell to find what I love by trying everything. ;)

@MoneyFunk I've been saying for years they should do a remake of 30-something. I didn't use to know what that meant, but it's starting to make more sense.

It would make sense if it were an age thing...I'm 25 and still clinging to what little idealism remains within me. Maybe it'll wear off and I, too, will enter the rat-race, only to yearn for the days of doing something I loved. Either way, I agree (and who would disagree?) with the "life is short" approach: try like hell to make the most of it!

Do you think it's a 30s things? Where we question what next and tell ourselves to do what we love? I know a few of us in this age group are rambling these questions around. Of course, the new decade compounds that question. Life is short. You either seize with fear or bound to making your dreams come true. I'm with you - try everything. Your bound to find something you love. :)

Congratulations on your fearless pursuit and on doing what you love. Most people are afraid to get out of their comfort zones for fear of failure. I was also pleasently surprised by your age as my perception of you was of being much older given the years mentioned on your about page! That makes it all the more impressive!

I'm just starting an account of my struggle with the exact opposite issue: I've made a career out of something I'm passionate about and as a result struggle daily due to the low pay involved. I'd be curious to hear how you find the balance between doing what you love and doing what you need; I still haven't figured out that balance in my own life.

1) A colleague passing by my desk thought the photo in this post was of a naked woman in shadow and asked why I was looking at it. WTF?!

2) I think this is your best post in a while! Perhaps because I'm in precisely the same mindset right now with the whole new decade, career lookback etc (although a year younger :) ) but great writing mate. Keep us updated!

Could not agree more. Do things you love. Sure you have work, expenses, stresses, but find things that are worth living for and take advantage of it. Maybe it's a trip, maybe it's a hobby, but enjoy life.

I can definitely relate. I felt like I was swinging at change-ups in T-ball. Plus the whole music to business thing.

But seriously, there came a time when I realized what I could do was so much more important than what I was already doing. That's when I decided to make the transition.

Hey Flexo! Guess we are on a very very similar path! I'm thinking on almost the EXACT same block of time as well of 10 years.

It's amazing how far we've come isn't it? The problem with the next 10 years is that it will go buy 20-30% quicker than the last, given our finite lives.

Let's make the most of it!
