It's been a while since I went into a closing LnT, but I do seem to remember they were not accepting the gift cards or other store branded cards.

I know that when the Sharper Image went out of business they had guys out holding signs on the intersections that started at 20% off and grew by about 10% a week till they hit 80% off and the store actually closed. I'd be willing to be the LnT does the same.

We had one shut down here recently. Hold out everyone...the discounts at the end were up to 75%. Everything is final sale though. I waited to buy some stuff until it hit 60% and there was still a pretty good selection throughout the store.

I went into a LnT in Massachusetts on Sunday and found that most of the discounts were currently only 10%. Perhaps they'll up them when they get closer to their last day of business and find they still have inventory.

The other important thing to note is that particular store was NOT accepting LnT gift cards, LnT credit cards, or personal checks. You need cash or someone else's credit to purchase something from them, and there are no refunds (they did seem to be willing to exchange something small for a woman at a nearby checkout lane).

Competition is good but that doesn't tell how each store is actually run business-wise. It will interesting to see if another store fills the void.
