Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards Premier Credit Card
Awhile ago, I wrote about Southwest Airlines and the credit card they have been offering to their frequent fliers. Although I’ve never been on a Southwest flight, this airline is always highly recommended by my friends and family. They just never seem to fly direct from where I am to where I need to go. One of the best features of Southwest, particularly in today’s era of small fees, is the ability to check up to two bags for free as long as the bags are within weight and size limits. Also, if you need to change your flight itinerary, Southwest does not charge a fee although keep in mind fare differences may apply. The Southwest Airlines® Rapid Rewards® Premier Credit Card from Chase was launched taking into account an important consideration for most new credit card customers: a sign-up bonus.
New cardholders of the Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards Premier Credit Card from Chase can earn 40,000 bonus points after spending $1,000 on purchases in the first 3 months of opening the account currently enough for two round-trip flights when you redeem them for two average round-trip fares with Southwest’s Wanna Get Away® Fares. Note not all round-trip fights are available for 20,000 points. Government fees as low as $10 not included.
Plus, if you spend another $12,000 in your first year, you’ll earn another 20,000 bonus points.
In addition to this bonus, cardmembers will receive rewards points on every purchase. Here is the breakdown:
- Two reward points for every $1 spent on Southwest Airlines and AirTran® Airways purchases made directly with the airlines
- Two reward points for every $1 spent on Rapid Rewards Hotel and Car Rental Partner purchases
- One reward point for every $1 spent on all other purchases
Southwest Airlines offers even more rewards points. For every $10,000 spent annually on net qualifying purchases, the airline credits the cardholder with 1,500 “tier-qualifying” points. These points allow cardmembers to earn A-level status on the Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards Premier Credit Card from Chase. There is an annual maximum of 15,000 tier-qualifying points. Each year after a customer’s Cardmember anniversary, Southwest awards another 6,000 bonus points. Reward points don’t expire as long as you have flight or Partner earning activity every 24 months.
These points come at a cost. That cost comes in the form of a $99 annual membership fee. The 6,000 bonus points for annual renewal are worth $100 in Wanna Get Away airfare, so as long as the points are used, the annual fee is canceled out by the value of the rewards.
Owning a airline miles credit card is a great way for travelers to save money on costly flights and to enjoy some of the perks airlines can offer. If your airline of choice happens to be Southwest, the Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards Premier Credit Card from Chase is a great option.
